Confidentiality & The Accounting Practice Exchange

We understand how important confidentiality is when privately selling your CPA, accounting or tax practice. Our platform is built to protect your sensitive information while still helping you attract qualified, serious buyers.

What We Ask For — And How We Keep It Private

To create a listing, we only require five basic pieces of information. You have full control over what’s displayed, and our system is designed to protect your identity at every step.

1. Your Email Address
  • We protect: Your email is never displayed publicly. All buyer messages are routed through our internal system and securely forwarded to you.
  • We recommend: Use a non-corporate email like Gmail, or Proton Mail. This helps keep your business identity hidden longer during buyer communications. When creating your email account consider using a generic username (such as practicesaleflorida@gmail.com).
Top Tip: Learn how to identify serious buyers early and avoid wasting time with unqualified prospects. Read our guide to pre-qualifying buyers.
2. Your State
  • We display: Only the state your practice operates in. This helps buyers find geographically relevant listings while maintaining your privacy.
3. Your General Location
  • You control: This is a text field. You decide how vague or specific to be (e.g., “Northeast Florida” or “South Bay Area”).
4. Practice Description
  • You control: Share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Some sellers highlight client mix or staff count without disclosing identifying details.
5. Gross Recurring Revenue
  • You provide: A revenue figure that gives buyers a financial snapshot. This helps screen for serious prospects without revealing sensitive data.

Secure Payments

You can pay for your listing using any major credit card or PayPal account.

We use PayPal for added security. All transactions are encrypted and processed securely through one of the world’s leading payment providers. Your personal and financial data is never stored on our site.

Maintaining Your Privacy

Even after your listing is live, we recommend that you continue using your non-corporate email and a general geographic description until you’ve qualified a buyer and feel comfortable sharing more.

Confidentiality Agreements

We encourage all sellers—especially FSBOs—to use a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before sharing sensitive business information with any buyer. For more guidance, visit our Pre-Qualification Guide.

Why Sellers & Buyers Trust Us:
  • Independently owned - not a broker, not tied to any M&A firm
  • Thousands of niche buyers visit the platform each month
  • No commission, no middlemen - we don’t participate in transactions
  • Designed for both brokers and FSBO sellers
  • Confidential listings, controlled by you
Since launching in 2012, we’ve helped hundreds of practice owners successfully sell their firms - some within weeks of listing. Many brokers have told us they get better quality leads here than on general listing platforms.
